Separation of General Santos City as a Lone Legislative District
- The City of General Santos is separated from the Third Legislative District.
- General Santos shall constitute its own lone legislative district.
Representation of Existing Districts
- Incumbent representatives of the current First and Second districts continue their terms until expiration.
Role of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC)
- COMELEC must issue implementing rules and regulations for this reapportionment within 30 days after the law takes effect.
Repeal of Previous Legislation
- Republic Act No. 11243 is repealed.
- Any other laws or rules inconsistent with this Act are repealed or amended accordingly.
Effectivity of the Act
- The Act takes effect 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation.
Legislative Process and Approval
- Originated in the House of Representatives, passed on September 15, 2021.
- Amended and concurred by the Senate and the House respectively in early 2022.
- Became law by lapse of time without the President’s signature on June 2, 2022, pursuant to the Constitution.
