Appointment Qualifications and Promotion Criteria

  • Appointment to investigative positions is limited to members of the Philippine Bar and/or public accountants.
  • Candidates must pass both competitive and physical examinations.
  • Induction and training by the NBI are mandatory before appointment.
  • Current Investigation Division members will retain their positions.
  • Only bona fide members of the Philippine Bar may be appointed as regional directors.
  • Promotion within the NBI will be based strictly on merit.

Acquisition of Permanent Facilities

  • The NBI is authorized to negotiate for the purchase of a lot and construct a permanent building in Quezon City or Manila.
  • The total cost for the land and construction shall not exceed one million pesos.
  • Such acquisition requires approval from the relevant authorities.

Appropriations and Funding

  • An initial appropriation of five million pesos is provided from unappropriated funds in the National Treasury.
  • This funding covers salaries, wages, travel expenses, supplies, materials, equipment, land acquisition, construction, and other necessary expenses.
  • Future funding shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act, except for the one-time appropriation for land and building acquisition.

Repeal of Inconsistent Laws

  • Any prior laws or provisions inconsistent with this Act are repealed.

Effectivity

  • The Act takes effect immediately upon approval.
