Role, Election, and Compensation of the Vice-Mayor

  • The Vice-Mayor performs duties of the Mayor in cases of sickness, absence, temporary incapacity, or definitive vacancy until the position is lawfully filled.
  • If the Vice-Mayor is incapacitated or the position vacant, the City Engineer exercises the Mayor’s duties.
  • The acting Mayor has the same powers and responsibilities as the Mayor.
  • The Vice-Mayor is an ex-officio member of the Municipal Board.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the Mayor or prescribed by law or ordinance.
  • The Vice-Mayor is elected by the same electorate and must meet the same qualifications as the Mayor.
