The positions of Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and Councilor are made elective by Republic Act No. 1236 in the City of Iligan.
The Mayor shall hold office for four years unless removed.
A person must be a citizen of the Philippines for at least five years, at least twenty-five years of age at the time of election, a resident of the city for not less than one year immediately prior to election, and a qualified voter in the city.
The Vice-Mayor performs the duties of the Mayor in case of sickness, absence, or incapacity of the Mayor. The Vice-Mayor is also an ex-officio member of the Municipal Board and performs other duties assigned by the Mayor or prescribed by law or ordinance.
The City Engineer shall perform the duties of the Mayor under those circumstances.
The Municipal Board is composed of the Mayor as presiding officer, the Vice-Mayor, and five councilors elected at large by the voters of the city.
The member becomes disqualified to act with the Board in election matters related to their candidacy. Other members shall perform those duties without their assistance or may choose a disinterested elector to act in their place.
Members must be qualified electors of the city, residents for at least one year, and not less than twenty-three years of age.
Members assume office on the date fixed in the Revised Election Code and hold office for four years until successors are elected and qualified.
Members may be suspended or removed under the same circumstances, manner, and effect as elective provincial officials.
