  • Formulate, review, and supervise national policies and guidelines on biosafety and risk assessment in biotechnology.
  • Develop collaborations with government quarantine services and institutions for project evaluation and monitoring.
  • Assist in the development of technical expertise, facilities, and resources.
  • Recommend research programs for risk assessment protocols and long-term environmental impact studies.
  • Publish internal deliberation results and agency reviews.
  • Conduct public consultations on proposed policies and biosafety issues.
  • Aid in amending and formulating pertinent laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Call upon assistance from other government entities as needed.

Secretariat and Administrative Support

  • The Department of Science and Technology serves as the Secretariat of NCBP.
  • Additional staff support is provided by member agencies as required.

Funding

  • Initial operations funded from DOST’s present budget.
  • Subsequent funding included in the general appropriations bill submitted to Congress.

Effectivity

  • The Executive Order establishing the NCBP takes effect immediately upon issuance.
