MMDA Authorized for Bus Lane Policies

Republic Act No. 7924 empowers the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to coordinate, monitor, and formulate policies, standards, programs, and projects concerning transport and traffic management in Metro Manila.
Under Republic Act No. 7924, the MMDA administers and implements traffic enforcement operations, traffic engineering services, and traffic education programs.
Republic Act No. 7924 authorizes the institution of a system to regulate road users and the institution of a single ticketing system.
Section 6 of Republic Act No. 7924 is the statutory basis for the Metro Manila Council’s authorization of the MMDA Chairman to implement bus lane/PUV lane policies and programs.
Section 7 (d) of Republic Act No. 7924 empowers the MMDA Chairman to execute policies and measures approved by the Council and to be responsible for efficient and effective day-to-day management of MMDA operations.

The resolution recognizes an urgent need to alleviate traffic congestion along major thoroughfares of Metro Manila.
