Question & AnswerQ&A (PRC PROFESSIONAL REGULATORY BOARD OF PHARMACY Resolution NO. 01, S. 2011)
The new general passing average rating for the Board Licensure Examination for Pharmacists is at least 75% with no rating below 50% in ANY SUBJECT.
The previous requirement was that an examinee must obtain a general weighted average of 75% with no rating below 50% in more than one subject. The revision changed it to no rating below 50% in ANY SUBJECT.
The revision was effected under Section 9(h) of Republic Act No. 8981, known as the PRC Modernization Act of 2000.
The revised passing grade took effect starting in the January 2011 Board Licensure Examination for Pharmacists, and 15 days after its full publication in the Official Gazette or a major newspaper.
The 50% rating rule means that an examinee cannot have a rating below 50% in any single subject to pass the licensure examination.
Copies must be furnished to the Professional Regulatory Board of Pharmacy, the Rating Division and other concerned PRC offices, UP Law Center, Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and institutions of higher learning offering pharmacy courses.
It refers to the overall average percentage obtained by the examinee across all subjects weighted according to the importance or credit units of each subject.
The Board issued the resolution revising the passing grade standards for the Board Licensure Examination for Pharmacists as part of its regulatory mandate.
By requiring a minimum of 75% general average and no rating below 50% in ANY SUBJECT, it ensures examinees have sufficient competence in all areas tested.
The resolution was attested by Carlos G. Almelor, Secretary of the Professional Regulatory Boards, and approved by Teresita R. Manzala, Chairperson, along with Commissioners Alfredo Y. Po and Jennifer Jardin-Manalili.
