Executive Order No. 230, dated October 31, 1939.

The organization became effective on November 1, 1939.

Pursuant to the provisions of Commonwealth Act Numbered Four Hundred Thirty and the authority vested in the President by law.

The Department is charged with supervising the national defense program of the country and has executive supervision over the Philippine Army, the Bureau of Aeronautics, the Bureau of Coast and Geodetic Survey, the Philippine Nautical School, and over the establishment and operation of all radio stations except those maintained by the Bureau of Posts.
