Q&A (EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 742)

The prisoners and detainees under the custody of the Philippine Constabulary/Integrated National Police (PC/INP) were affected by the increase in subsistence allowance.

The previous subsistence allowance was four pesos (P4.00) a day.

The daily subsistence allowance was increased to six pesos (P6.00) a day.

The subsistence allowance at the National Penitentiary under the Bureau of Prisons was already six pesos (P6.00) a day.

Ferdinand E. Marcos was the President of the Philippines who issued Executive Order No. 742.

The increase was to keep abreast with the increasing price level of foodstuff and other prime commodities, and to keep the subsistence allowance of PC/INP detainees at par with other prisoners and detainees.

The Executive Order took effect immediately upon its issuance on October 18, 1981.

Joaquin T. Venus, Jr. signed the order as the Acting Presidential Executive Assistant.
