Q&A (PROCLAMATION NO. 242)

Proclamation No. 242 declares the period from 05 September to 05 October of every year as National Teachers' Month in the Philippines.

The National Teachers' Month aligns with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designation of October 5 as World Teachers' Day.

The main purpose is to generate widespread awareness and support for teachers, revitalize the image of teaching as a vocation, and publicly express appreciation for teachers' role in society and national development.

The campaign was initiated by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI), De la Salle Philippines (DSLP), Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), and Campaigns Social Response (CSR), with the special participation of the Department of Education (DepEd) and support of key business institutions.

The period officially declared as National Teachers' Month is from September 5 to October 5 of every year.

The President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in him by law, declares and enforces the National Teachers' Month.

All concerned government departments, local government units, private sector, and the public are encouraged to actively participate and support activities and programs celebrating teachers and their contributions.

The National Prayer for Teachers, included as Annex A in the proclamation, is endorsed for recitation during National Teachers' Month.

The prayer is meant to express gratitude, ask for wisdom, patience, and passion for teachers, and to honor their role in nurturing students and contributing to national development.

It promotes public appreciation and awareness of teachers, supports initiatives that contribute to their professional growth, and raises the social status of teaching as a vocation in the Philippines.
