Republic Act No. 6769 created the Municipality of San Jose in the Province of Surigao del Norte, with specified boundaries and a designated seat of government, subject to a plebiscite and appointment of officials by the President, while transferring obligations, funds, assets, and properties from the Municipality of Dinagat.

RA 6769 creates the Municipality of San Jose in the Province of Surigao del Norte by segregating specified barangays from the Municipality of Dinagat.

Dinagat in Surigao del Norte remains a municipality, but it loses the barangays enumerated in RA 6769, while still exercising powers over the remaining areas.

Barangays San Jose, Matingbe, Jacques, Aurelio, Mahayahay, San Juan, Don Ruben Ecleo, Justiniana Edera, Sta. Cruz, Cuarenta, Wilson, and Luna.
