In response to requests from leaders and residents, Presidential Decree No. 1188 creates the Municipality of Barira in Maguindanao, with defined boundaries and the transition of officials from the mother municipality.

Barangays Barira, Nabalawag (Western part), Tugaig (Western part), Liong, Lipawan, Bualan, Gadung, Lipa, Marang, and Ruminimbang, along with numerous sitios such as Midppacor, Palangka, Minabay, Inipantao, and others listed in the decree were detached to form the Municipality of Barira.

The seat of government for the Municipality of Barira is located in Sitio Pedtad of Barangay Lipawan.

The President of the Philippines has the authority to appoint the first municipal officials of Barira after its creation.

Appointed municipal officials will serve until their successors have been elected in the regular municipal elections following the issuance of the Decree and have qualified.

The Municipality of Barira is bounded starting from the peak of Mt. Boroanga along the Maguindanao-Lanao del Sur boundary, following lines including Banganan Falls, Banganan River, Ambal River, Simuay River, and the boundary between Buldon and Parang municipalities, returning to the point of origin.

Except as otherwise provided, all provisions of laws applicable to regular municipalities apply to the Municipality of Barira.

Yes, the present elective municipal officials of Buldon will continue to perform their duties and also those in the newly created Municipality of Barira until new officials are appointed by the President.

All laws, parts of laws, executive orders, or regulations inconsistent with this decree are repealed or modified accordingly.

Presidential Decree No. 1188 took effect immediately upon issuance on August 29, 1977.
