Questions (EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 418)

The main goal of the Committee is to implement an expanded Green Revolution Program that increases local production of food commodities and supplementary crops, enlists participation from local government units and students, and helps sustain gains in vegetable production and the value of labor.

The Committee is composed of the Chairman (National Green Revolution Committee Chairman), the Undersecretary of Education (Vice-Chairman), the Undersecretary for Home Defense Force (DND), the Assistant Executive Secretary, the Undersecretary for Community Development (DLGCD), the Executive Director of the National Food & Agriculture Council, the Director of the Bureau of Plant Industry (DANR), and the Director of the Bureau of Agricultural Extension (DANR).

The Committee has the authority to call on any and all government agencies and instrumentalities for assistance in performing its functions and to organize action groups at the provincial, city, and municipal levels.

The Committee shall organize action groups at the provincial, city, and municipal levels, and a national coordinating center will be established to act as the clearing house for activities, monitor field operations, and centralize procurement of supplies and materials needed by the program.

The Executive Director of the national coordinating center shall be under the direct supervision of the Undersecretary for Home Defense, Department of National Defense (DND).

Local government units and the student population are encouraged to participate maximally in performing the tasks of the Green Revolution Expanded Program as part of the Committee's efforts to increase production and sustain gains.

Besides vegetables, the program emphasizes the production and consumption of supplementary crops such as root crops and tubers in backyards for home consumption.

The Committee is created by the President of the Philippines under the powers vested in him by law, through Executive Order No. 418, granting authority to organize, coordinate, and call upon government agencies to sustain and expand agricultural production programs.
