Batas Pambansa Blg. 557 covers the Leonora S. Salapantan Municipal High School (formerly San Miguel L. Salapantan Municipal High School) located in the Municipality of San Miguel, Province of Iloilo.
It converts the Leonora S. Salapantan Municipal High School into a national high school.
The converted school is to be known as the Leonora S. Salapantan National High School.
Section 1 establishes the change in status from a municipal high school to a national high school.
One hundred thousand pesos (₱100,000) is allocated for the operation of the school.
It is funded out of (1) appropriations authorized by Batas Pambansa Blg. 230 for the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports intended for new national high schools, and (2) an additional amount corresponding to fifty percent of its share in the budgetary aid actually paid before the conversion.
It requires an additional amount equal to 50% of the school’s share in the budgetary aid that was actually paid to it prior to the conversion.
It provides that the required sums shall be released for operation from the national assistance fund upon the conversion.
Thereafter, any sum necessary for the school’s operation and maintenance shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
Batas Pambansa Blg. 230 is referenced as the authority for appropriations intended for new national high schools under the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
From the national assistance fund to local schools.
It shall take effect upon its approval.
It was approved on June 24, 1983; since effectivity is upon approval, it took effect on that date.
It is both a policy and budget-related law: it converts the school (policy) and specifies funding amounts and sources, including future annual appropriations.
The law aims to ensure that the converted school receives national-level funding support, including an initial grant and continued funding through the annual General Appropriations Act.
