Question & AnswerQ&A (EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 772)
Executive Order No. 772 transfers the management, administration, and maintenance of the Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary (CGPWS) from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) to the Provincial Government of Palawan.
Calauit Island was declared as CGPWS by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 1578 dated August 31, 1976.
The objectives are to propagate African animals and Palawan endemic wildlife species, preserve the sanctuary including coastal and marine resources, develop Calauit Island as an education and conservation center in Asia, and ultimately develop Calauit Island into self-sustaining operations.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) originally operated and managed the Calauit Project before transferring it to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) as per the Memorandum of Agreement dated December 29, 1994.
The Provincial Government of Palawan holds full control and supervision over the administration, supervision, management including the awarding and regulation of all activities and concessions within Calauit Island.
The PCSD retains policy-making functions in the ecological preservation and maintenance of the park and has jurisdiction over wildlife species in Palawan as provided under RA 9147.
The Provincial Government of Palawan is required to prepare and submit an integrated master development plan for the Calauit Safari Park to the Office of the President of the Philippines.
All revenues and collections must accrue to the Provincial Government of Palawan's treasury and be used solely for the management, maintenance, operation, and development of the Calauit Safari Park and the Calauit Project.
The Provincial Government of Palawan shall ensure ecological preservation in coordination and cooperation with the PCSD and other concerned government agencies.
The Executive Order takes effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in a newspaper of general circulation.
