Main Functions and Duties of the Special Assistant
- Integrate and coordinate activities of science agencies, including those in other government departments, to maximize their contribution to national economic development.
- Act as a liaison between the executive and legislative branches on matters related to science and technology.
- Review and recommend schedules of activities, programs, and project proposals that promote the development and application of scientific and technological processes.
- Facilitate arrangements for aid and information exchange from both domestic and foreign sources.
- Receive and offer project proposals involving scientific and technological subjects, including basic research, engineering, social sciences, and humanities.
- Extend financial, technical, and other forms of assistance to supported projects.
- Initiate and formulate measures to promote scientific efforts nationwide.
- Submit periodic reports to the President regarding the status of national science initiatives.
- Perform additional functions as delegated by the President or authorized by law.
Authority and Power to Request Assistance
- Authorized to call upon any department, bureau, office, agency, or government-owned or controlled corporation for assistance, information, or coordination necessary for executing duties.
Effectivity
- The Order takes effect retroactively from February 3, 1958.
Formal Adoption and Signatories
- Signed by the President of the Philippines and the Executive Secretary, validating the creation and mandates of the position.
