Scope: Palawan’s legislative districts
- Republic Act No. 10171 reapportions the Province of Palawan into three (3) legislative districts.
- Each of the three districts under Republic Act No. 10171 shall be composed only of the municipalities specifically enumerated for that district.
- The first district retains its current composition; the second and third districts are newly defined by enumerated municipalities.
First legislative district composition
- Section 1(a) provides that the First Legislative District of Palawan remains without any change in composition as the municipalities of the current First Legislative District.
- Section 1(a) enumerates the First Legislative District municipalities as:
- Agutaya
- Araceli
- Busuanga
- Cagayancillo
- Coron
- Cuyo
- Culion
- Dumaran
- El Nido
- Linapacan
- Magsaysay
- Roxas
- San Vicente
- Taytay
- Kalayaan
Second legislative district composition
- Section 1(b) provides that the Second Legislative District of Palawan is composed of the municipalities enumerated by Section 1(b).
- Section 1(b) enumerates the Second Legislative District municipalities as:
- Balabac
- Batarasa
- Brookeas Point
- Narra
- Quezon
- Rizal
- Sofronio EspaAola
Third legislative district composition
- Section 1(c) provides that the Third Legislative District of Palawan is composed of the City of Puerto Princesa and the Municipality of Aborlan.
Incumbent representatives during transition
- Section 2 provides that the incumbent Representatives of the Province of Palawan continue to represent their respective districts.
- Section 2 limits continuation of representation until the new Representatives shall have been elected and qualified.
Implementation by the Commission on Elections
- Section 3 directs that the Commission on Elections shall issue the necessary rules and regulations to implement Republic Act No. 10171.
Repeal, inconsistency rule, and modification
- Section 4 repeals, amends, or modifies all laws, rules, and regulations that are inconsistent with Republic Act No. 10171.
Legislative approval and passage dates
- Republic Act No. 10171 was finally passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate on January 24, 2012 and June 4, 2012, respectively.
- Republic Act No. 10171 was approved on July 19, 2012.
