The Environmental Awareness and Education Act mandates the integration of environmental education into all levels of schooling and national service programs, promoting awareness and conservation efforts to foster a sustainable ecological balance in the Philippines.

Declaration of Policy

Scope of Environmental Education

  • Integration of environmental education mandated for all levels of education including public and private schools.
  • Coverage extends to barangay daycare, preschool, non-formal, technical vocational, professional level, indigenous learning, and out-of-school youth programs.
  • Environmental education includes concepts, principles, laws, environmental status both local and international, best local practices, threats and impacts of environmental degradation, citizen responsibilities, and values of conservation and rehabilitation.
  • Combines theoretical knowledge with practicum activities such as tree planting, waste management, conservation efforts, forest management, livelihood opportunities, and economic benefits.

Environmental Education in National Service Training Program

  • CHED and TESDA must include environmental education and awareness in the National Service Training Program.
  • This is to be part of the Civic Welfare Training Service mandatory for all baccalaureate and vocational courses lasting at least two years.

Declaration of Environmental Awareness Month

  • November of every year is officially designated as Environmental Awareness Month throughout the Philippines.

Interagency and Multi-sectoral Efforts

  • DepEd, CHED, TESDA, DENR, DOST, and other agencies, with environmental experts and academe, lead public education and awareness programs.
  • DENR is primarily responsible for updating agencies on environmental education issues and offering strategic advice.

Capacity-Building Programs

  • Teacher education courses and related livelihood programs are included.

Separability Clause

  • Any laws, orders, rules, or parts thereof inconsistent with this Act are repealed or modified accordingly.

Repealing Clause

  • Reinforces that conflicting laws or issuances are repealed or modified to align with this Act.

Effectivity

  • The Act takes effect 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette or in at least two newspapers of general circulation.
