Government and Private Sector Participation

  • All government agencies and instrumentalities, including the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, are mandated to support the observance
  • Government-owned and controlled corporations and local government units are also included
  • The private sector is encouraged to participate
  • Employees must be given sufficient time and opportunity to engage in activities related to National Press Freedom Day conducted at their workplaces

Role of Educational and Media Institutions

  • The Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) shall lead schools in the observance
  • These agencies will consult with the Office of the President, government and private media organizations
  • They shall organize consciousness-raising activities on the importance of the press
  • Activities will also cover the rights and social responsibilities of the press
  • Emphasis on eliminating all forms of violence against the press

Effectivity Clause

  • The Act will take effect 15 days after its publication
  • Publication must be done in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation
