Curriculum Design
- The program offers a four-year secondary curriculum patterned after the National Secondary Education Curriculum (NSEC).
- Curriculum is flexible and specialized in athletics and sports.
- First year pilot (SY 2000-2001) includes Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming, Taekwondo, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, and Table Tennis.
- The subject is scheduled for 80 minutes daily from Monday to Friday.
- It is listed on report cards as Physical Education and Sports (P.E.S.) I followed by the specific sport.
- The subject carries 2 academic units.
Student Admission to the Program
- Admission requirements include:
- Potential skills in more than one offered sport.
- Remarkable performance in sports competitions, validated by school principal.
- Passing physical fitness and/or skill tests in the chosen sport.
- Healthy attitude towards sports activities.
- Submission of Form 137 with general average not lower than 80, original birth certificate (born between Jan 1, 1986, and Jan 1, 1989), medical certificate from a government physician, and parental consent for rigorous training.
Retention in the Program
- Criteria for retention:
- No failing grades in any subject.
- Minimum grade of 85 in P.E.S. subject.
- Absences must not exceed 20% of the total school days.
- Physical and mental fitness.
- Good behavior and consistent performance improvement in specialization.
Student Performance Evaluation
- Assessment based on:
- Performance (60%): skill tests (15%), progress charts (15%), class participation/competitions (30%).
- Attitude (15%): attendance, punctuality, sense of responsibility.
- Written output (25%): quizzes/unit tests (10%), periodical tests (15%).

Roles and Responsibilities
Central, Regional, Division Offices:
- Monitor and supervise program.
- Provide technical assistance.
School Principal:
- Implement policies and guidelines.
- Organize faculty and personnel.
- Recommend policies and budget improvements.
- Supervise faculty and program personnel.
- Secure partnerships with NGOs, GOs, and private sector.
- Perform duties assigned by higher authorities.
PEHM Department Head/Sports Coordinator:
- Recommend experts if teacher-trainers unavailable.
- Assist principal in program implementation and supervision.
- Perform additional delegated functions.
Teacher-Trainers/Coaches:
- Implement program policies.
- Prepare syllabi and training designs.
- Evaluate athlete progress quarterly.
- Conduct pre- and post-skill tests and keep records.
- Perform other assigned tasks.
