Implementing authorities and cooperation
- The Science Education Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (SEI-DOST) implements the Special Science Curriculum.
- The SEI-DOST implements the curriculum in cooperation with the Bureau of Secondary Education of DECS (BSE-DECS).
- SEI-DOST provides the curriculum support materials to strengthen the science and mathematics instruction under the curriculum.
- School-level implementation requires coordination with principals of the network schools and other persons involved.
Scope: who, where, and when
- The curriculum is implemented in a network of 110 S and T Oriented High Schools.
- Implementation begins at the First Year Level.
- The start of implementation is beginning SY 1993-1994.
- The memorandum covers incoming first year students through an evaluation test to determine inclusion in special science classes.
- The memorandum’s implementation framework applies to the network schools listed in the attached school list.
Curriculum support and teaching materials
- SEI-DOST shall provide additional/enrichment materials for S and T I and Mathematics I-S.
- SEI-DOST shall provide a textbook for Earth Science.
- The provision of these materials supports the delivery of the special science curriculum in participating high schools.
Student selection through evaluation test
- An evaluation test shall be given to incoming first year students.
- The evaluation test is conducted to determine those who will be included in special science classes.
- The selection process is tied to the special science classes for the First Year Level during SY 1993-1994.
- Participation in the special science classes is determined based on the results of the evaluation test.
Coordination, dissemination, and school support
- Principals of the network schools must extend full support and cooperation to facilitate coordination and successful implementation.
- Other persons involved in the implementation must also extend full support and cooperation.
- Immediate dissemination of the memorandum is required to ensure prompt roll-out of the curriculum in the network schools.
