Basis for Extension According to R.A. 8291 and CSC-MC No. 27, s. 1990

  • Section 13(b) of R.A. 8291 allows service extension for compulsory retirees who have not completed the fifteen-year service requirement.
  • CSC Memorandum Circular No. 27, s. 1990 sets conditions for such extensions:
    • Extension applies only to permanent appointees in the career service.
    • Applicants must be regular members of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
    • The extension period shall not exceed one year.

Guidelines for Extension of DECS Officials and Employees

  • Requests must be properly endorsed by the head of office.
  • Requests must be filed at least three years before the employee’s retirement date.
  • The duration of extension shall not exceed one year.
  • Employees who joined the service at age 57 or older are disqualified from extension.
  • Applicants must have permanent status in the career service and GSIS membership.
  • The latest performance rating must be at least "Very Satisfactory."
  • Physical and mental fitness certification by a government physician is required.

  • The policy of no service extension for DECS employees who have reached 65 years of age and fulfilled the fifteen-year service requirement remains in effect.
