Automatic Assumption of Office by Existing Officials

  • The governor, vice-governor, and members of the provincial board elected in 1971 for the Subprovince of Siquijor automatically become officials of the new province.
  • These officials shall hold office until their successors are duly elected and qualified.

Territorial Composition and Governance

  • The Province of Siquijor consists of the present territory of the Subprovince of Siquijor.
  • Governance, operation, election, appointment, and remuneration of officials shall comply with the Administrative Code and applicable laws governing regular provinces.

Representation in the House of Representatives

  • The Member of the House of Representatives for Siquijor will be elected in the next presidential elections.
  • Until then, the current Representative of the Second District of Oriental Negros will represent Siquijor.

Transfer of Property, Funds, and Obligations

  • All funds, obligations, and properties belonging to or assigned to the Subprovince of Siquijor shall become the property of the new Province of Siquijor upon its establishment.

Continuation of Key Officials

  • The fiscal, sub-provincial assessor, division superintendent of schools, and district engineer of the Subprovince become the corresponding officials of the new Province of Siquijor.

Continuity of Other Appointive Officials

  • Other appointive officials of the Subprovince will continue their service in the new province.
  • Heads of offices maintain their positions, with necessary changes in official designations to reflect the new province status.

Commencement of Corporate Existence

  • The province begins its corporate existence after the election of local officials in the 1971 general local elections.
  • Siquijor is not entitled to its own delegate in the Constitutional Convention and remains part of the Second Congressional District of Oriental Negros.

Repeal of Inconsistent Laws

  • All laws or parts of laws inconsistent with this Act are repealed.

Effectivity

  • The Act takes effect upon its approval.
