Qualifications and Appointment Process for Officers
- Officers must be Filipino citizens.
- Appointments are made by the President of the Philippines based on recommendations from the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy Board.
- For ranks of Captain and above, appointment and promotions require the consent of the Commission on Appointments of Congress.
Transition and Initial Appointments of Current Personnel
- Upon the law's effectivity, the President, advised by the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy Board, may commission the superintendent, department heads, instructors, and other qualified existing personnel.
- Appointments are to correspond with the salary grade they are currently receiving, thus aligning rank with compensation.
Effectivity of the Law
- The Act became effective immediately upon its approval.
- Notably, this legislation was enacted without executive approval on June 17, 1967.
