Objectives of the Awards

Constitution and Composition of the Awards Committee

  • Creation of Awards Committees at multiple levels: municipal, city, provincial, regional, and national.
  • The National Awards Committee composition includes:
    • Chairperson: Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)
    • Vice-Chairperson: Secretary of the Department of Justice
    • Members:
      • National President of the Liga ng mga Barangay
      • Representative from the National Peace and Order Council
      • Two private sector/NGO representatives selected by the Chairperson
    • Optionally, one Supreme Court representative may be invited.
  • Similar composition replicated at lower administrative levels.
  • DILG provides technical and secretariat support through the Bureau of Local Government Supervision.

  • Additional funding encouraged from Committee member agencies and private sector.

Awards and Prizes

  • National awardees receive via local chief executive:
    • Presidential Trophy.
    • Development grant of PHP 300,000.
  • Regional awardees receive:
    • Development grant of PHP 50,000.
    • A special plaque as recognition.

Effectivity

  • The Executive Order takes effect immediately upon signing on January 22, 1997.
