Declaration of National Shrines, Monuments, and Landmarks

  • Certain sites are declared as National Shrines, Monuments, and/or Landmarks, namely:
    • Barasoain Church (Malolos, Bulacan)
    • Tirad Pass (Cervantes, Ilocos Sur)
    • Miagao Church (Miagao, Iloilo)
    • Site of the Battle of Mactan (Mactan Island, Cebu)
    • San Sebastian Church (Quiapo, Manila)
    • Church and Convent of Santo Nino (Cebu City)
  • This declaration is made pursuant to provisions of Republic Act No. 4368.
  • Their preservation, restoration, and reconstruction are placed under the National Historical Commission in cooperation with the Department of Tourism.

Appropriations and Funding

  • Initial funds amounting to PHP 500,000.00 are appropriated:
    • PHP 500,000.00 for the National Museum
    • PHP 500,000.00 for the National Historical Commission
  • These appropriations shall be drawn from the National Treasury funds not otherwise appropriated.
  • Subsequent funding shall be included in the annual national budget.

Authority to Declare Other Sites

  • The National Museum and the National Historical Commission have the authority to declare other historical and cultural sites as National Shrines, Monuments, and/or Landmarks.
  • Such declarations must comply with the guidelines in Republic Act No. 4846 and the principles of this decree.

Modifications to Existing Laws

  • Provisions of Republic Act No. 4846 and Republic Act No. 4368, and other inconsistent laws, are modified or repealed to the extent of their inconsistency with this decree.

Immediate Effectivity

  • The decree takes effect immediately upon approval, ensuring the prompt implementation of its provisions.
