Powers and Functions of the Committee

  1. Advise the President and government/private entities on developments in geological sciences, especially on environmental protection and resource conservation.
  2. Coordinate, promote, and monitor national and international geological science programs.
  3. Facilitate Philippine representation in international geological organizations.
  4. Manage compilation, storage, retrieval, analysis, and dissemination of geological information.
  5. Solicit and accept donations and contributions for program funding.
  6. Formulate and implement necessary rules and regulations.

Officers and Secretariat

  • Committee members elect a Chairman and Vice-Chairman for two-year terms.
  • Secretariat headed by a permanent Executive Secretary from the Bureau of Mines and Geo-Sciences.
  • Secretariat maintains a permanent office at the Bureau of Mines and Geo-Sciences.

Funding Provisions

  • Director of Mines and Geo-Sciences authorized to allocate funds for Committee operations from 1980 and 1981 Bureau savings.
