Appointment and Initial Rank

  • Professors are appointed initially at the rank of Major.
  • Assistant professors are appointed initially at the rank of First Lieutenant.
  • Officers transferred or newly appointed to the Corps maintain or receive these specified ranks.

Promotion of Professors

  • Professors become eligible for promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel after eight years of service as Major.
  • They may advance to Colonel after ten years as Lieutenant-Colonel.
  • Colonel is the highest rank attainable for professors.

Promotion of Assistant Professors

  • Assistant professors may be promoted as follows:
    • To Captain after four years as First Lieutenant.
    • To Major after six years as Captain.
    • To Lieutenant-Colonel after eight years as Major.
  • Lieutenant-Colonel is the highest rank for assistant professors.
  • Assistant professors who reach Major or Lieutenant-Colonel may be promoted academically to professor if vacancies arise, gaining professors' promotional rights.

Transfers and Special Assignments

  • Regular Force officers may apply to transfer to the Corps of Professors, retaining their grades or adjusted to minimum initial ranks as provided.
  • Lower-ranked officers appointed as assistant professors are assigned the rank of First Lieutenant if their existing rank is lower.
  • Lower-ranked officers appointed as professors are assigned the rank of Major if their existing rank is lower.
  • The Chief of Staff may assign officers temporarily to PMA faculty without changing their original arm/service status or promotional pathways.

Credit for Prior Service

  • Appointed members receive credit for previous service rendered in roles such as professor, acting professor, assistant professor, acting assistant professor, or department head at the PMA prior to their appointment.

Rights, Privileges, and Benefits

  • Members of the Corps of Professors are entitled to pay, allowances, retirement rights, and privileges equivalent to other officers of the Regular Force, except where otherwise specified.

Administrative Authority

  • The President holds the authority to define the size and composition of the Corps and the Chief of Staff controls temporary faculty assignments.

  • The creation and provisions rely on the authority granted by Section 22 (c) of Commonwealth Act Numbered One, as amended.
