Establishment and Composition of the Caliraya Development Commission

  • Composed of key government and private sector representatives:
    • Honorary Chairman: Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos.
    • Executive Officer: General Manager, National Power Corporation.
    • Members including: Commissioner of the Board of Travel and Tourist Industry, representative of the Philippine Tourist and Travel Association, Inc., Mr. Manuel Nieto, Jr., Mr. Maximo T. Kalaw, Jr., Secretary of Public Works and Communications, Director of Lands, Mayor of Cavinti, Laguna, and a representative of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Powers and Functions of the Commission

  • Authorized to coordinate with various government agencies regarding:
    1. Protection of watershed areas.
    2. Propagation and preservation of wildlife.
    3. Reforestation efforts.
    4. Seeding the lake with freshwater fishes.
    5. Establishment of security measures.
  • To establish policies and guidelines for proper use of the lake and its amenities.
  • To promote and encourage joint ventures with foreign governments or local/foreign investors for tourism and recreational development.
  • To draft protective legislation addressing water pollution, sedimentation, and water level reduction in Caliraya Lake.
  • May request assistance from any government department, bureau, office, agency, or instrumentality to fulfill its functions.

Repeal of Prior Directive

  • Executive Order No. 365 dated January 11, 1972, is expressly revoked to avoid conflict or duplication of authority.

Formalities

  • Signed by the President of the Philippines and the Executive Secretary on March 10, 1972, in Manila, giving the Commission formal legal birth and authority.
