CPE Requirements and Scope
- A requirement of 45 credit units over a three-year period for ID card renewal.
- Excess credits cannot be carried over to the next period.
- The Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines (PCAP) CPE Accreditation Committee authorizes structured activities.
- The committee oversees development, assessment, and record-keeping related to CPE programs.
Composition and Functioning of the CPE Accrediting Committee
- Comprises five PCAP members representing key criminology specializations: Education/Research, Law Enforcement, Investigation, Criminalistics, and Corrections/Probation.
- A Board of Criminology member is an ex-officio liaison.
- Members must be Registered Criminologists with at least five years of experience and recognized expertise.
- Three-year terms, renewable once.
- Tasks include formulating guidelines, accrediting programs, monitoring activities, and revising guidelines.
- Elects a chairman and vice-chairman; quorum requires three members.
- Meets monthly at minimum and staffs a CPE Center for administration.
Types of Accredited CPE Activities
- Participation in professional meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences related to criminology.
- Postgraduate academic courses related to criminology or allied fields.
- On-the-job training, externships, apprenticeships, and specialized diplomate courses.
- Approved activities recommended or organized by the CPE Committee.
- Authorship of criminology-related books, articles, research papers, and instructional materials.
- Self-instructional materials with clear objectives and evaluations.
Procedures for CPE Implementation
- Applications for accreditation or authority to conduct CPE activities must be submitted to the PCAP CPE Center.
- Registered Criminologists must earn a minimum of 15 credit units annually for a total of 45 over three years for license renewal.
- Only CPE-approved activities qualify for credit; non-approved activities may be evaluated upon request.
- Records of CPE credits and activities maintained by the accrediting committee secretariat.
- Credit evaluation includes: 1 credit per hour of participation; 15 credits per postgraduate semester; 20 credits for three-month training; 20 credits per book published; 10 credits per article or training module; 15 credits per published research.
- Some exemptions apply: practitioners over 60, those bedridden over one year, or those abroad for studies or assignments (for up to three years).
- The committee may collect reasonable fees to support program administration.
