Issuing authority and legal basis
- Act No. 1372 is enacted by the Philippine Commission, by authority of the United States (Act No. 1372).
- Section 1 confers jurisdiction “anything in existing law to the contrary notwithstanding,” establishing priority over inconsistent existing rules of jurisdiction.
Territorial coverage and covered causes
- Section 1 confers concurrent jurisdiction upon justices of the peace for the municipalities of Iloilo and Buenavista.
- The jurisdiction covers causes arising in the barrio now known as Sanao, located on the Island of Guimaras, Province of Iloilo (Section 1).
- The conferral applies to “causes arising” in that specific barrio-location nexus (Section 1).
Concurrent jurisdiction rule
