Official renaming of the Bureau
- Section 1 amends Act No. 253 by renaming “the Bureau of Non-Christian Tribes” as “The Ethnological Survey for the Philippine Islands.”
- The Bureau’s designation changes by law so that the Ethnological Survey is the name and designation henceforth.
Expanded functions and duties
- Section 1 keeps the Ethnological Survey charged with the investigation and duties assigned by Act No. 253.
- Section 1 expands the Bureau’s mandate to conduct systematic scientific researches in anthropology and ethnology.
- The research must be conducted among all the inhabitants of the Philippine Islands.
- Section 1 authorizes the Ethnological Survey to investigate and report on matters requiring information about the inhabitants of the Philippines.
Requests for investigations and reporting
- Section 1 allows the head of any Department of the Insular Government to call upon the Ethnological Survey.
- Section 1 requires that such calling upon the Survey be made through the Secretary of the Interior.
- Section 1 requires the Ethnological Survey, when called upon, to make investigation and report on matters referring to the inhabitants of the Philippines that require information.
