Law Summary
Procedure When Multiple Candidates Share the Same Name or Surname
- When two or more candidates for the same office have the same name and/or surname, voters must include the correct identifying name, surname, or initial for their vote to be valid and counted.
- If candidates share the same surname and one is an incumbent seeking reelection, a ballot indicating only the surname will be counted in favor of the incumbent candidate.
- This provision aims to avoid confusion in voting and to give a clear rule for vote counting in cases of identical candidate names.
Effectivity
- The amendments take effect immediately upon approval of the Act, ensuring immediate implementation of the revised rules relating to certificates of candidacy and vote counting procedures.
