Legal basis and statute amended
- Republic Act No. 5715 amends Subsection (g) of Section 34 of Republic Act No. 4136.
- The amended provision governs required lights and reflector warning devices for certain vehicle conditions.
What vehicles must display when parked or disabled
- Subsection (g) requires appropriate parking lights or flares to be displayed when a vehicle is parked on highways or in places that are not well-lighted.
- Subsection (g) requires display of parking lights or flares when a vehicle is placed in such manner as to endanger passing traffic.
- The parking lights or flares must be displayed at a corner of the vehicle.
- The parking lights or flares must be visible one hundred meters away.
- Every motor vehicle must be provided at all times with built-in reflectors or other similar warning devices.
- The built-in reflectors or similar warning devices must be at its front and back.
Visibility and continuous compliance requirements
- The reflectors or similar warning devices must be visible at night.
- The reflectors or warning devices must be visible at least one hundred meters away.
- The reflectors or warning devices must be built-in or similar devices that are pasted, painted, or attached.
- The law requires compliance at all times for reflectors or similar warning devices.
Registration prohibition for non-compliant vehicles
- Subsection (g) prohibits registration of any vehicle that is not provided with the requirements stated in the subsection.
- No vehicle not provided with the required parking-light/flaring capability when applicable and required reflectors or similar warning devices at the front and back shall be registered.
