Observance of Local Holidays and Festivities

  • Banks may close on certain days in celebration of important historical and religious events specific to the locality where the bank operates.
  • Such closure does not require prior BSP approval but must have prior approval from the local bankers association.
  • Bank branches must also obtain approval from their respective head offices for closure in local festivities.
  • Closure due to local festivities is limited to the municipality or city where the celebration takes place.

Notice and Requirements for Temporary Closure

  • Banks or branches planning closure due to local festivities must submit a prior notice to the appropriate BSP supervising and examining department.
  • The notice must be filed within two (2) days following the local bankers association's resolution approving the closure.
  • The notice must be accompanied by certification that:
    a. A skeletal force will be maintained to handle out-of-town clearing items as stated in Section X603 of MORB.
    b. Notice of closure and reasons will be posted conspicuously on the bank's premises.
    c. For branches, the prior approval of the head office is secured.

Effectivity of the Circular

  • The circular takes effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation.
  • The circular was adopted on December 1, 2005, under the authority of the BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr.
