Composition of the National Heroes Commission

  • Determine which heroes should be honored with special public holidays, the scope (national or local), the manner of observance, and whether the birthday or death anniversary should be commemorated.
  • Oversee the celebrations to ensure harmony, solemnity, and propriety.

Powers and Reporting Requirements

  • The Commission may seek assistance from any government department, bureau, office, agency, or government-owned/controlled corporation.
  • It must report to the President at least every six months regarding its activities and functions.

Legal Authority and Effectivity

  • The law is promulgated by the President of the Philippines and is effective as of December 27, 1962.
  • It abolishes the former Jose Rizal National Centennial Commission, transferring responsibilities to the new Commission.
