Republic Act No. 9242 mandates the use of Philippine tropical fabrics for uniforms of public officials and employees, aiming to promote patriotism, support local manufacturing, and generate employment and benefits for the country.

It provides an annual appropriation, sourced from the Bureau of Prisons–Prison Industries and Salvage Warehouse Revolving Fund, for pecuniary aid to national prisoners who are injured or disabled while preventing a prison riot or jailbreak or while performing prison industry duties, and not due to the prisoner’s negligence.

Any national prisoner who is injured or disabled while preventing a prison riot or jailbreak, or while in the performance of duties required of him in any prison industry, provided it is not due to his negligence.

Injury or disability sustained while (1) preventing a prison riot, (2) preventing a jailbreak, or (3) performing duties required in any prison industry.

The injury or disability must not be due to the prisoner’s negligence.

It shall be paid at the time of the prisoner’s release from prison or any time during confinement if the prisoner so desires.

Payment shall be made to the prisoner’s legal heirs, provided they are not the offended parties or who caused the imprisonment.

The Director of Prisons determines the amount, subject to approval by the Secretary of Justice.
