Law
Prc Board Of Medicine No. 26-98
Decision Date
May 25, 1998
Examinees who fail the physician licensure examination three times must complete a one-year refresher course at a recognized medical school before being allowed to retake the exam, as mandated by new guidelines from the Board of Medicine.

Questions (PRC BOARD OF MEDICINE Resolution NO. 26-98)

A candidate who fails for the third time in the complete or final examinations must take a refresher course prescribed by the Board of Medicine of at least one (1) year in a recognized medical school or college before being allowed to take subsequent examinations.

The earlier guidelines (Board Resolution No. 153, Series of 1990) were found to have been administered by an institution that was not a recognized school or college of medicine, prompting new guidelines.

At least one (1) year.

Examinees who failed three (3) times in physician licensure examinations and obtained failing grades in any subject or subjects in three complete or final examinations must enroll in those subject(s) in a recognized medical school or college.

No. Under Guideline No. 2, if they obtained passing grades three times in any subject or subjects in three complete or final examinations, they are not required to enroll in those subject(s).

The examinee must submit reports of ratings from the three (3) licensure examinations to the registrar for guidance in determining the subject(s) they must enroll in, based on failing or passing grades.

They must accommodate for enrollment those examinees who fall under Guideline No. 1 to take a refresher course for at least one year.

A list of enrollees taking a refresher course, indicating the subject(s) they are enrolled in.

The refresher-enrollee is exempted from laboratory work/study in the basic subject if such work or study is a component of the subject(s) they are enrolled in.

When it is shown by the professor’s report of attendance that the refresher-enrollee incurred absences in the aggregate of 20% or more of the required total number of hours of attendance in the subject(s) where enrolled.

Board Resolution No. 153, Series of 1990 is repealed.

All other resolutions and rules and regulations inconsistent with Resolution No. 26-98 are repealed or modified accordingly.

After approval by the Commission, it takes effect after fifteen (15) days following its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation, whichever is earlier.

No enrollment is required for that subject, because Guideline No. 2 exempts subjects where the examinee obtained passing grades three times in the three complete or final examinations.
