QuestionsQuestions (Republic Act No. 1134)
RA 1134 provides for longevity pay to officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in addition to their monthly base pay.
Longevity pay is equivalent to 10% of the officer’s monthly base pay authorized for his grade for each five years of faithful and efficient service.
The additional pay is compounded every five years (i.e., each 5-year period increases the longevity pay according to the statute’s compounding scheme).
Total longevity pay shall not exceed 50% of the officer’s monthly base pay.
No. RA 1134 expressly states it shall not be construed as authorizing payment of any back longevity pay for any period of services previously rendered.
The Act takes effect on July 1, 1954.
It covers each officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for faithful and efficient service rendered as an AFP officer and as a member of recognized guerrilla units.
The service must be faithful and efficient, and it must be rendered as an officer of the AFP and/or of recognized guerrilla units.
No. RA 1134 also includes service as an officer of recognized guerrilla units.
For reserve officers, the sum total of their active tours of duty shall be counted.
Section 3 repeals Section five(d) of Republic Act No. 291.
Each increment corresponds to every five years of faithful and efficient service.
No. RA 1134 caps total longevity pay at 50% of the officer’s monthly base pay.
Growth continues by compounding every five years, but the total longevity pay cannot surpass 50% of monthly base pay.
It is in addition to the officer’s monthly base pay.
