Executive Order No. 187 establishes a Comprehensive and Unified Policy for Tuberculosis Control in the Philippines, adopting the DOTS strategy and promoting collaboration between government agencies and private sector organizations to address the significant public health problem of tuberculosis in the country.

It adopts the DOTS strategy, which includes five components as the basis for the implementation of TB control.

Direct sputum smear examination is mandated as the initial diagnostic tool for tuberculosis case finding.

The policy mandates the use of Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) as the strategy to ensure patient compliance.

Among others, the Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of National Defense, Department of Justice - Bureau of Corrections, and several others including the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and National Economic and Development Authority are instructed to implement the policy.

PhilCAT collaborates with the Department of Health and other stakeholders to develop and promote the Comprehensive and Unified Policy for TB Control.

The policy was ratified by the heads of the participating organizations during this conference, signifying broad support for the unified TB control strategy.

Private sector organizations are enjoined to work in partnership with government agencies to conduct dissemination and training on the Comprehensive and Unified Policy for TB Control.

Political commitment is necessary to ensure sustained, comprehensive implementation of National TB Program activities across various sectors.

Standardized chemotherapy following the National TB Program is required to ensure effective and consistent treatment of tuberculosis cases throughout the country.
