Increase Subsistence Allowance for BJMP and BFP
Law
Executive Order No. 116
Decision Date
Jul 5, 1999
President Joseph Ejercito Estrada increases the daily subsistence allowance for officers and enlisted personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Bureau of Fire Protection from Thirty Pesos to Sixty Pesos to address rising living costs.

Q&A (EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 116)

The Executive Order increases the subsistence allowance of all officers and enlisted personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The subsistence allowance was increased from Thirty Pesos (P30.00) to Sixty Pesos (P60.00) per day.

The increased subsistence allowance is effective from January 1, 1999.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Bureau of Fire Protection were created under Republic Act No. 6975.

They enjoy subsistence allowance, quarter allowance, clothing allowance, cost of living allowance, hazard pay, and all other allowances as provided by existing law.

The increase was due to the inflationary increase in the cost of basic commodities and foodstuff, making the previous allowance of Thirty Pesos insufficient to meet food and nutritional requirements.

The officers and men of the Armed Forces of the Philippines had their subsistence allowance increased to Sixty Pesos (P60.00) per day effective September 1, 1998.

Funds will be sourced from the lump-sum appropriation of the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Program as authorized in Republic Act No. 8745, the CY1999 General Appropriations Act.

The Secretary of Interior and Local Government is responsible for issuing such implementing instructions.

All conflicting rules, regulations, and other issuances or parts thereof are repealed or modified accordingly.
