Questions (BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS Resolution NO. 242, S. OF 2000)

It intends to implement Section 15(e) of R.A. No. 7836, known as the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994.

Applicants must have the educational qualifications expressed in terms of specific degrees prescribed by the law for each teaching level covered.

Applicants whose educational qualifications are considered equivalent degrees because they have taken at least eighteen (18) units of education (professional and general education) or specialized subjects.

The Board resolved to determine and prescribe the specific degrees that are equivalents of the degrees required under R.A. No. 7836 for licensure examination applicants.

Applicants for licensure examination for preschool, elementary, and secondary levels, including applicants for examination as teachers of vocational and two-year technical courses.

Annex “A” is adopted, promulgated, and issued as an integral part of the Resolution, providing the detailed rules on degree equivalents and the required education/specialized subjects.

Annex “A” provides: (1) degrees equivalent to a Bachelors in Childhood Education (BECED) and a Bachelors in Elementary Education (BSEED); (2) degrees equivalent to a Bachelors in Education (BSE) with major/minor and specified specialization plus professional education subjects totaling 18 units; and (3) degree/s equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in specialization for vocational/two-year technical teachers plus professional education subjects totaling 18 units.

They must complete the professional education subjects (with the weight of 18 units), and the degree must match the appropriate major/minor field and specialization as specified, as well as the required professional education subjects in Annex “A.”

They must meet the professional education subject requirement with a weight of eighteen (18) units, consistent with the degrees and subject requirements specified in Annex “A.”

The implementation starts with the licensure examination in the year 2000.

It takes effect fifteen (15) days following its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation, whichever comes earlier.
