President Benigno S. Aquino III declares the period of 11 February 2013 to 11 February 2014 as the Centennial Year of National Artist for Music, Maestro Lucio D. San Pedro, in recognition of his contributions to the cultural heritage of the Philippines.

The constitutional basis is the provision for the patronage of arts and letters by the State, as stated in the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) were designated as the lead agencies for the celebration.

The category 'National Artist' was created to honor individuals with preeminent achievements that have enhanced the cultural heritage of the Filipino people. It was established under Proclamation No. 1001 (s. 1972).

The purpose is to recognize and propagate the works and achievements of the National Artist, thereby preserving and developing Filipino culture and national identity.

The Centennial Year lasts for one year, from February 11, 2013 to February 11, 2014.

His works reflect preeminent excellence and national genius that contributed to the national heritage of the Philippines and the world.

Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa, Jr. signed the proclamation by authority of the President.

Government agencies are enjoined to coordinate with the NCCA and CCP to propagate the works of National Artist Maestro Lucio D. San Pedro during the Centennial Year.
