To commemorate the devastating eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991, the City of Angeles in the Philippines declares June 15, 2020, as a special non-working day, allowing residents to participate in commemorative activities while adhering to public health measures.

June 15, 2020, was declared a special (non-working) day in the City of Angeles, Province of Pampanga, to commemorate the volcanic eruption of Mt. Pinatubo that occurred on June 15, 1991.

The declaration was made by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea by authority of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, through Proclamation No. 959 dated June 11, 2020.

The day was declared to honor those who perished and survived the Mt. Pinatubo eruption and those who helped in the rehabilitation, relocation, and recovery of affected families, as well as to provide the people an opportunity to participate in remembrance ceremonies.

The eruption affected the provinces of Zambales, Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac, and Nueva Ecija.

President Corazon C. Aquino created a Task Force on the Rehabilitation of Mt. Pinatubo Eruption-Affected Areas.

The ceremonies were subject to community quarantine, social distancing, and other public health measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President of the Philippines, or by delegation to the Executive Secretary or other authorized government officials, has the authority to declare special (non-working) days.

It grants that locality a day off from work typically without loss of pay, intended to commemorate significant events or holidays unique to that area.

The proclamation was signed in the City of Manila on June 11, 2020.
