Q&A (EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 264)

Executive Order No. 264, dated August 21, 1957, created the municipality of Polomolok.

The municipality of Polomolok was created pursuant to the provisions of section sixty-eight of the Revised Administrative Code.

The municipality of Polomolok was formed from several barrios and sitios taken from the municipalities of General Santos and Tupi in the province of Cotabato.

The seat of government of the municipality of Polomolok is at the barrio of Polomolok.

The municipality of Polomolok shall begin to exist upon the appointment and qualification of the mayor, vice-mayor, and a majority of the councilors, and upon certification by the Secretary of Finance that the municipality is financially capable of meeting the Minimum Wage Law provisions, statutory obligations, and essential municipal services.

The Secretary of Finance must certify that the municipality of Polomolok can financially implement the Minimum Wage Law provisions and provide essential municipal services, and that the municipalities of General Santos and Tupi can still maintain their governments and fulfill obligations after segregation of their territories.

The territorial boundaries of Polomolok are described beginning at the summit of Mt. Magolo and follow a detailed route around adjacent municipalities and natural landmarks, including boundary lines with municipalities of General Santos, Tupi, Kiamba, and following rivers, mountains, and highways as detailed in the order.

The municipalities of General Santos and Tupi will retain their present territories minus the portions included within the newly created municipality of Polomolok.

The creation of the municipality of Polomolok was signed by President Carlos P. Garcia and by Executive Secretary Fortunato De Leon.

The Executive Order took effect on August 21, 1957, upon fulfillment of the prescribed conditions.
