Ortigas Technopoint Tower 1 & 2 was designated as a Special Economic Zone under Republic Act No. 7916, also known as the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995, as amended by Republic Act No. 8748.
The President of the Philippines has the authority to create and designate Special Economic Zones under RA No. 7916, upon the recommendation of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
The building known as Ortigas Technopoint Tower 1 & 2 is located at No. 1 Dona Julia Vargas Street corner Meralco Avenue, Barangay Ugong, Pasig City. It has a gross floor area of approximately 50,836.63 square meters. The parcel of land on which the building stands has an area of approximately 13,787 square meters.
The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Board of Directors' resolutions govern the operations and designation of Special Economic Zones, including resolutions such as No. 00-411 (s. 2000), 11-066 (s. 2011), 15-240 (s. 2015), 17-472 (s. 2017), 14-726 (s. 2014), 18-276 (s. 2018), and 18-421 (s. 2018).
The Proclamation includes a technical description of the parcel of land, its boundaries, directions, distances, bearings, and area, supported by survey data prepared by a private geodetic engineer and verified and checked by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) officials.
The technical description and survey provide precise legal boundaries and identification of the land parcel and building to avoid disputes, ensure clarity of the area covered, and support the legal designation of the Special Economic Zone.
The designated area, consisting of the building and parcel of land, is declared a Special Economic Zone specifically as an Information Technology Center as defined under RA No. 7916, as amended.
The proclamation subjects the property to the provisions of RA No. 7916, its implementing rules and regulations, and relevant PEZA resolutions, granting it special economic zone privileges and regulatory treatment consistent with the law.
