Q&A (EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 138)

The provincial governor of each province and the city mayor in the case of a city are directed to secure the historical information.

The historical data must be transmitted no later than December 31, 1938.

They are enjoined to call together the old men in every barrio, sitio, or district to obtain historical community data from them or from any documents in their possession.

1) Present official name and native name with meaning, changes, and derivations; 2) Date of establishment; 3) Traditions, legends, folk tales, beliefs, proverbs, sayings, superstitions, puzzles, songs, nursery rhymes, preferably in local dialect with English translation.

Information on present and former names, dates of establishment, traditions and legends, data on historical sites, important historical events, and names of officials such as capitanes municipales and alcaldes mayores.

Present and former names with meanings, date of establishment, chronological list of governors and principal officials, names of five outstanding deceased citizens with achievements, and important historical events.

The governor signs for the province, the city mayor for the city, the municipal mayor for the town, and the teniente for the barrio. Materials involving traditions or historical sites must bear signatures of the original sources.

They should be delivered to the municipal mayor who forwards them to the provincial governor, who then sends all documents carefully packaged to the Director of the National Library, marked as 'Historical Documents.'

This is to give due credit to such family or families for preserving the historical records.

Names of all Filipino authors in the community and titles of all their printed or manuscript productions, with a statement of who possesses any manuscripts.

Information about these books and documents should be provided to facilitate their possible acquisition by the National Library through purchase or gift.
