Ethics refers to a system of moral principles or values; the rules or standards governing the conduct of members of a profession, accepted principles of right or wrong; and establishes the means of doing what is right, fair, and honest.
The Professional Regulatory Board of Dentistry is empowered to prescribe and adopt the Code of Ethics for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental technologists.
The powers and functions of the Professional Regulatory Board of Dentistry are provided under Article II, Section 6 of Republic Act No. 9484, also known as The Philippine Dental Act of 2007.
Section 25 of Article IV states that the Board shall adopt and promulgate the Code of Ethics and Code of Dental Practice for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental technologists prescribed and issued by accredited professional organizations of dentists.
The Philippine Dental Association, Inc. (PDA), the accredited professional organization of dentists, submitted the draft amendments.
The Board consulted with stakeholders, deliberated on the provisions of the draft submitted by the PDA, enhanced and accepted it as part of the rules and regulations implementing RA No. 9484.
The Board adopted and promulgated the Code of Ethics on July 17, 2008.
The Code of Ethics shall take effect fifteen (15) days after its full and complete publication in the Official Gazette or in any newspapers of general circulation in the Philippines.
The members are Rosita S. Canlas-Nisce (Chairman), Norma Reyes-Ayap (Member), and Daniel G. Feraro (Member).
The purpose is for dissemination of the Code of Ethics to all concerned dentists, dental hygienists, and dental technologists.
