Tariff import duty rates adjustment EO 465
Law
Executive Order No. 465
Decision Date
Jan 13, 1998
President Fidel V. Ramos issues an executive order to modify import duty rates and nomenclature for certain articles, aiming to enhance global competitiveness and streamline the tariff structure while ensuring a level playing field for domestic manufacturers.

Q&A (EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 465)

"Annex A" lists the articles classified under Section 104 of the Tariff and Customs Code of 1978 that are subject to the revised rates of import duty as prescribed by the Executive Order.

This Executive Order took effect immediately after its complete publication in two newspapers of general circulation in the Philippines.

Upon entry or withdrawal from warehouses for consumption in the Philippines, the imported articles listed in Annex A are levied the new rates of duty prescribed in the Executive Order.

Executive Order No. 264 (s. 1995), along with other presidential issuances, administrative rules, and regulations inconsistent with Executive Order No. 465, are revoked or modified accordingly.

The goal is to promote global competitiveness, simplify the tariff structure for easier customs administration, and provide a level playing field for domestic manufacturers by correcting tariff distortions and smoothing the pace of tariff reductions.

During the caucus, it was agreed to undertake a review of the phased tariff reduction scheduled up to the year 2000 in light of recent domestic and international economic developments, leading to adjustments in the tariff reduction program.

No, the recalibration is designed not to delay or prevent the attainment of a uniform level of tariff protection by the year 2004.

The modifications apply to articles classified under Section 104 of the Tariff and Customs Code of 1978.
