The primary purpose of Presidential Decree No. 202 is to amend Sections Four and Fifteen of Republic Act No. 4374, also known as the Geodetic Engineering Law, to address the shortage of qualified geodetic engineers and to create a new category of examination for Junior Geodetic Engineers.
Two kinds of examinations were introduced: Junior Geodetic Engineer and Geodetic Engineer.
To qualify for the Junior Geodetic Engineer examination, candidates must satisfy requirements (a) to (c) of Section 15 and have completed an Associate in Surveying, or third year in Geodetic Engineering, or fourth year in Civil Engineering with certain subjects completed.
They must complete courses in Laws on Natural Resources, Land Registration and Property, Land Reform Laws, Land Property Surveys, Photogrammetry, and Cartography.
Because of the expanded land reform, shortage of qualified geodetic engineers, and the need to utilize technical men trained in geodetic and photogrammetric surveying for social reform and economic development.
They are expected to execute land property surveys for judicial and administrative land registration proceedings, including land reform mapping.
It took effect immediately upon its signing on June 2, 1973.
